Colt SAA, 7 1/2" barrel, Ivory grips, with Colt letter showing that it was shipped on September 5, 1928 as a .38/40, with Ivory grips to Denver, Colorado. It has been re-barreled and has a cylinder chambered in .38 Special. The bore and cylinders are bright and shiny. The hammer retains the four clicks, and the action is strong and locks up tight. The Ivory grips are not original to the gun, but are newly manufactured for Colt replacements. The grip screw is a bit long. The frame retains just a bit of the case colors, the barrel and cylinder exhibit handling marks, some loss of finish and some small areas of light rust and small pits. The trigger guard/grip retains most of the original blue and is numbered to the gun under the right grip. There is some small areas of light rust under the grips. As shown in the Colt letter the gun was sold to A.W. Peterson & Sons and shipped to Whitney Sporting Goods Company, 1 gun in the shipment. Axel W. Peterson was a Swedish immigrant who arrived in Denver in 1879, worked as a gunsmith before opening his own gun shop in downtown Denver in 1886. He became famous for his barrel making and gun assembly to the frontier scouts and guides that frequented his shop. He sold the store in 1953 to Leighton Baker who subsequently moved the store to Mount Dora, Florida northwest of Orlando. The store is still open and very popular. The original Colt letter and a brief synopsis of A.W. Peterson will be included. On consignment to us. MSH422016CWB
